ready to start your dreadlock journey?
Dreadlocks from scratch are created by backcombing and crocheting giving greater control over the maturing and sectioning process. Different options are available when creating dreadlocks. if you have thick hair you can choose whether you'd like thin, medium or thicker dreadlocks. How thick your hair is will determine how many dreads you end up with and what thickness you end up with. You can also choose how you would like the tips of your dreads- short wispy, long wispy or blunted. We will discuss this at the beginning of the appointment or online consultation.
Did you know you don't have to book in for a full head of dreads? Many people get partial dreads in the underneath section of the hair in various amounts. heres some options below;

Dreadlocks are completed in rows for easier maintenance and less chance of tangling to any loose hair that you might leave un-dreaded. See below an estimate of dreads you get per row;

how should i prepare for my appointment?
Before the appointment you should wash your hair one or two days before. Natural or dread shampoo are best to use as it will make your hair easier to dread. Don't use conditioner as it is a de-tangler and we want to knot up your hair!

how long does it
take?
Time will vary depending on length and thickness of your hair but heres a rough idea;
.1 row- 1 hour .2 rows 2hrs
.Half head- 4hrs
.3quarter- 5hrs
.Top knot- 3/4hrs
.Mohican-4/5hrs
.Full head- 6-10hrs
How are dreadlocks made?
Dreadlocks are made by backcombing the hair into sections and dreading the sections a row at a time with a small crochet hook. Starting from the underneath layers and working up towards the front.
No products, root flipping or interlocking are used. So you will only see a smooth uniform dread.
how do i look after my dreads?
Maintaining Dreadlocks boils down to washing routine, separating, palm rolling and maintenance sessions where the re-growth at the root is re-dreaded. Aftercare sheets are provided at appointments.

should i use products on my dreads?
I've always advised to use no products on dreads, only a natural shampoo that suits your hair type.
Avoid waxes and gels as they get stuck in the dreads and show no benefit to the hair.
